CMAT test · heart, nerves, metabolism · St. Louis
The CMAT test looks for the hidden reasons a treated pain keeps coming back.
CMAT, the CardioMetabolic Assessment Test, bundles quick, painless Measura checks into a single visit at painstl.com, covering circulation, the tiny nerve fibers, heart rhythm and body makeup. No needles.

This test happens only on a physician’s order. It runs only while a physician is on site and immediately available.
How does the test work?
A group of Measura tests run together: cuffs on the arms and ankles to compare blood flow, a check of the small nerves that control sweating, heart rhythm measures that show how your nervous system is balanced, and body composition.
Why would your physician order it?
A procedure can quiet a pain generator, but tissue still has to heal, and healing runs on blood flow, nerve health and metabolism. CMAT can show poor circulation to the legs, early damage to the small nerves, or a nervous system stuck in stress mode. Those findings change the plan. Read why metabolic health shapes pain.
What will you feel?
Pressure cuffs go around your arms and ankles, fingertip sensors clip on, and your hands and bare feet rest on flat metal plates. No needles at any point.
Getting ready for test day
Wear sleeves and pant legs that roll up easily. Skip coffee, energy drinks and nicotine for a few hours first.
Tell us before the test about
- A pacemaker
- Pregnancy
How much time to plan for
Plan on about 30 to 45 minutes each time.
What to remember
- Painless, with no needles.
- Hold the coffee and nicotine for a few hours.
- It looks for reasons healing has stalled.
Last step. Show us you have it: Explain to your technician what you will skip before the test and for how long. Unsure about any step? We run through it with you again next time.

Ask whether this belongs in your plan
A physician reviews your history and your procedures first, then writes the orders. Nothing is added without a reason in your chart.
