Exercise bands for home exercise ยท St. Louis
Exercise bands add just enough resistance to build strength while the tissue is still healing.
Exercise bands are elastic resistance bands, latex or latex-free, color-coded by strength. At painstl.com they let muscles strengthen while you heal, with no need for dumbbells.
What exactly is it?
Elastic bands in color-coded strengths, latex or latex-free.
Why would it be part of your plan?
Resistance is what makes a muscle adapt. A band gives smooth, adjustable resistance that is easy on healing joints and tendons, and it lets you do the row and the outward turn at home exactly as you learned them. Both protect the shoulder after treatment.
What a good fit feels like
Steady resistance from start to finish. Go slowly out and slowly back; a band allowed to snap back can hurt you.
Daily use and care
Secure it in the hinge gap of a shut door, or under your foot. Before each use, check it for nicks or sticky spots, and discard any band that has them. Keep it in a drawer, away from sun and heat.
Warning signs that mean you call
- Allergic to latex? We swap in a latex-free band.
- Itching, a rash or hives where the band touches you: stop and call.
Every item is fitted on you in the clinic. We demonstrate wearing it, using it and removing it, hand you written instructions, and have you do it solo before leaving. Pain, a poor fit or a broken part means a call to (314) 886-5620.
How much time to plan for
Only for exercises marked on your home program.
What to remember
- Slow out, slow back, no snapping.
- Inspect it for nicks before every use.
- Anchor it at the hinge edge of a shut door.
Last step. Show us you have it: Right here in the clinic, demonstrate one band exercise before you leave. Unsure about any step? We run through it with you again next time.
